PTS Diagnostics HbA1c

HbA1c is found in the blood and is a form of hemoglobin, which is the protein in the red blood cells, and transports oxygen out to the body’s organs. HbA1c is formed when hemoglobin reacts with blood sugar (glucose), and is sometimes called long-term sugar as it shows the level of blood sugar during the last two to three months. The HbA1c test measures the amount of HbA1c in the blood and is used to detect / monitor diabetes. About 520,000 people in Sweden between the ages of 20 and 79 are estimated to have diabetes. More than 170,000 of these (every third) are estimated to be undiscovered.
